Welcome to Humanitarian Aid to Ukraine
We are volunteers and Ukrainian civilians staying behind in the war zone to help the most vulnerable among us. We organize evacuations, deliver food, water, and medicine, and provide other vital services to those in harm’s way.
Across Ukraine, cities, towns, and villages have sustained severe damage. Affected public and residential services include:
- electric power grid
- water and heating utilities
- communication and internet
- public transportation
- department stores and pharmacies
- banking
Water service and central heating are dependent on a sustained power supply. With increased damages to residential areas, the power grid has been deteriorating rapidly. Repair efforts by utility companies are hindered by safety concerns. This situation is expected to last for as long as the war continues.
Without power, there is no communication, and it becomes harder to reach out for help.
Public transportation has virtually halted, buses were repurposed for the evacuation effort. The underground metro service has stopped transporting people. Instead, it’s used as a bomb shelter. The majority of the population is getting around by foot. Those with cars have mostly fled the affected areas, and those remaining have to wait in line to get rations of gas at the dwindling number of gas stations.
Many department stores have closed due to a limited supply of goods. Food stores have closed some locations and remain open only during limited daytime hours. Their service is not free, but still, people form lines and wait to get inside.
Most people have barely any money left. The government arranges for certain financial relief. But since most banks have closed, ATMs have enormous lines and run out of cash quickly.
To mitigate this crisis, some food and postal companies are acting as food banks, and distribute humanitarian aid at certain locations. These services appear to be extremely strained. We can see queues stretching several blocks. People are spending 5 to 10 hours, without protection, to receive aid.
War continues, and people grow more vulnerable by the minute.
Enter Humanitarian Aid to Ukraine. We organized our friends and relatives into volunteer brigades. We connect with our neighbors about their supply needs, and then we use public information and contacts in department stores and pharmacies to inquire about goods. We then use our personal or lended vehicles to transport the items to them directly, without them ever having to leave their shelters. If someone needs to journey across the city or evacuate, we arrange transportation and gather intelligence to ensure safe transit.
Please note, due to the curfew in effect, the wandering hours for civilians is during the day. Also, most highways and some city intersections have military security checkpoints. This necessitates optimal routing of delivery services.
There are no functioning repair shops. Vehicles do break down.
As you might expect, resources are limited. We rely on support from the public. Without your contribution, we can’t continue to deliver these crucial services. Our personal gratitude will be eternally lasting, and people here will know that humanity is out there to help, which in turn will sow the seeds of reciprocity.
It is estimated that around 20% of population have left the country and contributed to humanitarian crisis in the European Union. A lot of refugees are going farther, as far as Canada, United States, and even Australia. Helping people receive aid and stay at home will minimize the global impact of this crisis.
We’re based in the city of Kharkiv which is currently under violent siege. In addition, we’re coordinating with other volunteers throughout Ukraine for mutual assistance.
Volunteers need your help.
